This project was an intense collaborative paper that defines a simple 12-member C. elegans<\/em> microbiome\u00a0resource (#CeMbio) for the community. The collaboration was\u00a0between the Christian-Albrechts University (Kiel, Germany), the Ecole Normale Sup\u00e9rieure, (Paris, France), the University of California, Berkeley (CA, USA) and Baylor College of Medicine. The aim is to offer the C. elegans<\/em> and the wider microbiome community with a community set composed of twelve fully characterized bacteria as a benchmark tool for host-microbe interactions studies.<\/p>\n

These 12 strains were selected to be representative (10\/12 core\u00a0#microbiome\u00a0families, >65% of diversity), meaningful (isolated from natural worms\/ habitats\/ mesocosms), & easy to use (all grow on LB).<\/p>\n

The CeMbio joins model\u00a0microbiomes across systems, from mice to\u00a0drosophila to\u00a0zebrafish to\u00a0arabidopsis and beyond, to find mechanisms of impact on health and\u00a0disease. This sandbox research system offers limitless possibility and offers a common and framework to compare the effect of the microbiome on different aspects of the host life, from life span to resistance to pathogens, to the effect on development and more.<\/p>\n
